The Tiger Sky Tower will close for good on Dec 28, 2018, about 15 years of operation on Sentosa.
It is one of the highest observation tower in Singapore. The Tiger Sky Tower stands at 131 metres above sea level and offers a breath-taking 360-degree view of the surroundings.
Last year on Aug 12, there was a stalling incident due to a drive unit component overheated. There were 39 people in the cabin trapped for more than fours hours at about 25 meters above the ground. It was closed for over three months after the incident.
However, in a statement on Oct 23, its managing director Alexander Melchers said the closure is not due to the fault. In fact, the company did not come to an agreement with Sentosa Development Corporation to renew the lease.
To add on, the operator believes the Sky Tower is a future-proof technology and could have operated at Sentosa for many more years. Now, the operator plans to move and rebuild the Sky Tower in another country.
As a gesture of appreciation, Sky Tower will reduce its ticket prices from Nov 1 until its closure to all visitors.
